Dell in talks to avoid Taiwanese fine over pricing blunder

Dell in talks to avoid Taiwanese fine over pricing blunder

Dell says it is working with Taiwanese authorities to settle complaints about two pricing errors on the firm's local online store.

Last month, Dell advertised £90 LCD monitors for £10 and repeated the mistake less than a week later by pricing a £1,150 notebook at £350.

Taiwanese authorities are considering fining Dell up to $700,000 for failing to comply with an order by Taiwan's consumer watchdog to honour orders at the lower prices.

"While we cannot speak about government actions taken against Dell, we will continue to work with government leaders to reach a fair resolution to all parties," the firm said in a statement.

Taiwan's authorities have also threatened to shut down Dell's online store if the supplier fails to compensate customers.

Dell said it has provided a toll-free number for customers and has offered discounts to all those who placed orders during the time in question.
