The IBM Simon went on sale to the public on 16th August 1994 and combined mobile phone technology with a wide range of computing features.

IBMs pioneering product was also the first mobile phone to feature software apps and could be linked up to a fax machine. It had a limited availability with only being available in the US within a 15 state network and only 50,000 models.  This device unsurprisingly was very popular within the business community, as they felt the need for a transportable phone that doubled up as a mini-computer.

With only half hour of battery life, a price tag of $899 and no mobile Internet at times, it was only a matter of time before the hype wore off. After two years after it s launch the IBM Simon disappeared from the market.
