Microsoft Surface Pro 3 v MacBook Air

Which wins the battle?

In the current market there are only two operating systems that are battling it out: Windows and OS X, this has resulted in a close battle between that devices that run on Windows or OS X.
Microsoft have released several ads throughout the year comparing the Surface Pro 3 with the MacBook Air, sparking many people to make comparisons between the two devices.

When the MacBook Air came out in April people were captivated as at the time it was the only device out there that offered what it has.  However when the Surface Pro 3 came out it wanted to let the world know it was better or at least on par with MacBook Air.  With not much difference in the price, MacBook retailing at £550 for the 11-inch model and the Surface Pro 3 priced at £487 people have been looking at the dimensions for any big differences.  MacBook is thicker and heavier at 0.68 thick with a weight of 2.96 pounds, and for the Surface Pro 3 is only 0.55 thick and weighs 2.4 pounds.

The processing power for both devices comes in different options; the MacBook Air offers Intel Core i5 and i7 processor, while the Surface Pro 3 offers both plus i3 processor. The two devices have 128 GB flash memory and up to 8GB RAM.  For the resolution, the Surface Pro 3 wins this one. It has a 2160x1440 display, while the MacBook Air only has 1440x900 display.  This is the only Mac that doesn't feature a Retina display. However, one thing to consider is the resolution trade-off. MacBook Air gives 10 hours of battery life, while the Surface Pro 3 offers up to nine hours of web browsing on a single charge.

The big differences are in the additional features that the Surface Pro 3 offers, particularly the touch-screen capability, detachable keyboard, and the use of a special stylus. The MacBook Air doesn't offer any of these.  The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is clearly more versatile but what it comes down to is what a person wants from a laptop, if they can do away with the touchscreen, detachable keyboard.  If they are concerned with the price difference; or whether they are more comfortable with Windows of OS X.
