According to a survey from Citrix, cloud Computing has now been embraced by two in three businesses, despite awareness of security and management risks.

Instead of information residing on their machines, cloud-based computing involves firms offering applications, data and service to users over the internet.

60 IT directors were included in Citrix survey, which found that 87% believed that there were some risks included with cloud computing, but had not stopped most of them using the model.

The research carried out shows that 66% of UK organizations are wither using cloud-based applications or have made the investment and will be rolling it out in the next year.

From the research, 22% are going to be using cloud computing across the whole organization, 17% are only using it for a specific department and 30% have made the initial investment in the technology.

The responses were garnered from attendees at a recent Citrix Solutions Seminar.

Only 13.3% believe that there are no risks what so ever associated with cloud computing while 33% of respondent believe there could be security risks. 22% are worried about a loss of control of data, in addition to this 15% are concerned by a lack of bandwidth and 10% think it could cause problems with IT management and governance.

Chief security architect at Citrix UK, Chris Mayers "Cloud computing has the potential to deliver a wide range of applications and data to the distributed workforce at low cost, and it is clear organizations already see the benefits,"

"However, organizations need to plan carefully. With cloud computing, data is deposited with the provider, just like depositing money with a bank. You need to be able to get that data back when you need it, and be confident the provider is safeguarding your data, since you remain responsible for its security - so good governance is vital."
